How many CE credits do I need for real estate in Texas?

By

As a real estate sales agent in the state of Texas, staying updated and informed is not just encouraged, it’s a professional necessity. Your commitment to excellence in the real estate industry is commendable, and to maintain your license and uphold the highest standards of service, navigating through the maze of Continuing Education (CE) requirements is crucial.  Life is busy and sometimes education does not get the attention it needs leaving the question: How many CE credit do I need to fo real estate in Texas?

The Simple Answer:

18 hours
License holders must meet Continuing Education (CE) requirements during each two- year license period. CE must include 4 hours of Legal Update I, 4 hours of Legal Update II, 3 hours of Contract-Related coursework, and 7 hours of elective CE courses for a total of 18 hours.

Renewal Timeline:

First and foremost, let’s address the timeline for your Texas real estate ce license renewal. Every two years, like clockwork, your license requires renewal. But remember, patience is key – renewal notices typically grace your inbox approximately 90 days before the expiration date. Until you receive this official notice, alas, renewal remains but a distant dream.  Of course, you will want to jump on the calendar for Texas Real Estate Education (TexasRealEstate.Education) and book your classes.

Renewal Flexibility:

But fret not, for flexibility is at hand. Even if you miss the expiration date by a hair’s breadth, you still have a window of opportunity. Up to six months post-expiration, renewal is feasible, albeit with a small bump in the road. Between six months and two years post-expiration, reinstatement becomes the avenue to pursue, allowing you to revive your license and get back in the game. Beyond the two-year mark, however, it’s back to square one – a fresh application and a victorious pass through the examination gates await.

Sales Apprentice Education (SAE) Requirements for First-Time Renewals:

For the initiates stepping into the renewal arena for the first time, whether active or inactive, the criteria are clear. A robust total of 270 qualifying real estate course hours must adorn license history. Commencing October 1, 2023, a mandatory 30-hour Real Estate Brokerage course joins the ranks. But that’s not all – 4 hours each of TREC’s Legal Update I and II must gleam proudly in your records before renewal. Should you find yourself donning the mantle of a supervisor under your broker’s wing, a 6-hour Broker Responsibility course becomes your beacon of renewal. And remember, no deferrals are allowed – education is the key that unlocks renewal.

Active Sales Agent License Renewal Requirements:

For those seasoned agents navigating the renewal waters, 18 hours of approved Continuing Education (CE) courses stand as the benchmark for your Texas real estate ce license renewal. Among these, 8 hours dedicated to TREC’s Legal Update I and II illuminate the path, alongside 3 hours of contract-related coursework. Elective CE courses totaling 7 hours round out the requirements. Supervisory responsibilities beckon? Fear not, for the 6-hour Broker Responsibility course stands ready to fulfill your needs.  You can easily meet all of your renewal continuing education requirements for your Texas real estate license with Texas Real Estate Education (TexasRealEstate.Education).

Navigating Renewal with Finesse:

But what of the latecomers, you ask? Up to six months post-expiration, a temporary reprieve beckons, albeit in inactive status.

Renewal isn’t just a task; it’s a testament to your dedication and professionalism. With these guidelines in hand, navigating the renewal process becomes a journey of growth and continued excellence in service. So, fellow agents, let’s embark on your Texas real estate ce license renewal odyssey together, ensuring that our commitment to quality remains unwavering in the ever-evolving landscape of Texas real estate.

Providing You With The Tools To Be Successful Through Education

Texas Real Estate Education and our instructors work hard to provide broadcast class environments where real state professionals can learn how to better perform in the real estate industry, better represent their clients, and learn material that actually benefits their business and clients.  Nobody likes the feeling of “CE Jail” (you know those classes that feel like a waste of time just to get the credit). We recognize that continuing education is not one's favorite way to spend their time.  However, we do our best to engage all of the students in each class to participate and hopefully learn something new thing in each class.
